Merge PDF in Your Browser Without Uploading

You can merge PDFs without sending them to a conversion server. PDF North reads the selected files in this tab, copies their pages into one document, and offers a temporary download from browser memory. There is no account, no job history and no copy kept anywhere but your device.

Open Merge PDF

Your file stays private. PDF North tools run in this browser tab. Following a guide and opening a tool does not upload the document.

How to do this in PDF North

  1. Open Merge PDF on the device that already holds the files, so nothing has to be moved or synced first.
  2. Choose two or more PDFs in the order they should appear, then check the filename list under the dropzone.
  3. Select Merge PDFs, then open merged.pdf and confirm every section is present before you delete any source.

Why local merging matters

Contracts, medical forms, payslips, HR letters and student work often should not enter an upload queue. Many online mergers send each file to a server, process it there and hold it for a while before deletion. A browser-side merge keeps the bytes on the device while the tab is open. There is nothing to delete later on a remote system, and no account to sign in to. The trade-off is device memory: very large selections depend on the computer or phone you are using, not on a remote server.

What “in your browser” means here

When you choose files, the browser reads them from your disk into the memory of this tab. The merge copies every page from the first file, then the second, and each file after it, into a new document built in that same memory. The finished file is handed back as a temporary local link, and your browser saves it like any other download. Reloading or closing the tab releases that link. You can watch the browser’s Network tab while the merge runs: the PDFs are not sent as uploads. The page may still load its own scripts from this site, and those requests do not contain your documents.

Getting the order right before you merge

The names listed under the dropzone are the order the pages will follow. There is no drag-and-drop sorter after the list appears, and choosing files again replaces the whole selection. If your file picker keeps sorting them differently, rename the files with a 01, 02, 03 prefix and select them again. Pages already out of order inside one source are copied as they are, so fix that file first with Reorder PDF Pages. To bring in only a chapter of a long file, extract it with Extract PDF Pages and merge that smaller PDF.

Practical limits to plan around

PDF North limits each file to 60 MB, combined selections to 120 MB and the merged document to 250 pages. At least two files are needed. Those are stability limits, not upload caps. A phone can run out of memory before them, especially with photo scans: close other tabs, merge fewer or smaller PDFs, or finish the job on a computer. Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Visible page content is copied, but bookmarks, interactive form fields and certificate-backed signatures are not guaranteed to carry across, so fill forms and keep signed originals before you merge.

Finish the document after the merge

Merging copies pages rather than compressing them, so merged.pdf is usually about as large as the sources added together. Add page numbers with Add PDF Page Numbers only after the combined order is correct; the reasoning is in page numbers after a merge. Compress with Compress PDF only if the destination has a size limit and you accept flattened pages, and see merge PDF for email for attachment caps. Remove metadata last with Remove PDF Metadata if the file will leave its original workflow.

Frequently asked questions

Does a browser merge still send my PDF somewhere?

No. PDF North processes the selected files in the current tab. The site does not receive the documents or keep an account history of them, and the Network tab will not show them being uploaded.

How do I control the order of the merged pages?

Pages follow the order of the filenames listed under the dropzone. There is no drag sorter, so select the files again in the right order, or rename them 01, 02, 03 first.

Why did the merge fail on my phone?

The browser must hold every selected file and the new document in memory. Close other tabs, use fewer or smaller PDFs, or finish the merge on a computer if the device runs out of memory.

How many files or pages can I merge?

At least two files, each up to 60 MB, with the whole selection within 120 MB and the merged PDF within 250 pages. There is no separate file-count cap beyond those limits.

Will merging make the file smaller?

No. Pages are copied, not recompressed, so the result is usually about the combined size of the sources. Compress the merged copy if a mailbox or portal rejects it.

Can I merge password-protected PDFs?

No. Locked files are not supported. Unlock a copy you are allowed to edit, then merge that copy.
