How to use Extract PDF Pages

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Enter pages such as 1-3, 8, 10.
  3. Extract and download the new PDF.

What this tool changes

Only your selected pages are copied into a new PDF. This is useful for sharing one section without sending the full document.

Important limitation

Repeated page numbers are included once and retain the order of your selection. The extract is a new document, so the source title, author, subject and document XMP stay behind, while the new file receives its own Producer, Creator, creation date and modification date. Each copied page keeps its stored width, height and rotation, so a landscape table between portrait pages stays landscape. An XMP stream attached to an individual page travels with that page. Run Remove PDF Metadata on the extract when none of those properties should leave with it.

Build one PDF from the pages you list

Extract PDF Pages is the tool for a smaller share of a document you already have. A clerk asked for the signed declaration rather than the whole report. A client should see the invoice pages and not the draft notes. You type the keepers. The tool builds one new PDF from that list. The source file is left as it was. This is not a split into many downloads, and it does not remove pages from the original.

The field is Pages to extract, and it is required. The note says to use commas and ranges. The placeholder starts as 1-3, 8. After the file is read, a PDF longer than four pages shows a placeholder of 1-3 plus the last page, and a shorter PDF shows 1 through its page count. The summary's page count is the highest number you may use.

The list is the selection and the order

Leaving the field empty stops the job with the message Enter page numbers, for example 1-3, 5, 8. Nothing is written until the list is valid. 1-3, 8, 10 keeps those pages in that order: 1, then 2, then 3, then 8, then 10. The same numbers written as 8, 1-3, 10 come out as page 8, then 1, then 2, then 3, then 10. A range expands from its start to its end, and the end must be the higher number. 3-1 is rejected. A repeated number is kept once, at the first place it appeared, so typing a page twice does not duplicate it. Spaces around commas and hyphens are accepted. A word, or a number outside 1 through the page count, is rejected, and the message includes that span.

Five pages from a 24-page report

report.pdf has 24 pages. You need the cover, which is page 1, the summary on pages 4, 5 and 6, and the signature on page 24. Enter 1, 4-6, 24 and press Extract pages. The result row is labelled Extracted pages. The download is report-extracted.pdf. It contains five pages in the order you typed, and the line under the label is the file size. The 19 pages you did not name are absent from that download. They are still inside report.pdf on your device.

Extract, delete and split answer different questions

Extract names the keepers and can place them in a new order inside one file. Delete PDF Pages names the pages to drop and keeps everything else in the old order. Split PDF ignores both kinds of list. It walks from page 1 in fixed groups and offers a separate download for each group. If you wanted every page as its own file, set Pages per file to 1 on Split PDF. Extract always returns a single PDF, even when the list is one number.

Copied pages, without the old outline

The new PDF starts empty. The chosen pages are then copied into it. Typed text is not turned into a picture. A scan stays a scan. This step does not run optical character recognition, and it does not recompress images. The outline is not copied, so bookmarks from the source do not show up in the download. The form dictionary is not copied. Do not use this page on a fillable form that someone still has to complete. A certificate that signed the original file does not stay valid on the new bytes. Keep the source. Page numbers painted on the paper stay as they were printed. They are not rewritten as 1, 2, 3. Run Add PDF Page Numbers on the extract if the new packet should carry fresh labels.

Phones, locks and the memory caps

One PDF, at most 60 MB, and at most 250 pages. A second file is refused with the one-PDF message. An encrypted file fails during the read. The wording is that password-protected PDFs are not supported yet, and the page never asks you to type a password. This tool does not draw a first-page preview, so you look the numbers up in a reader you trust. The page field uses a numeric keyboard on a phone. A short list such as 1, 4-6, 24 is comfortable there. A very long scan can still exhaust memory on the phone before the published caps, because the file is parsed in the tab. The bytes are not posted to PDF North. Reload the tab when you finish so the temporary download address is dropped.

Tips for the file you are about to send

Reorder PDF Pages is the full permutation, and it demands every page exactly once. Delete is the shorter chore when you know the junk rather than the keepers. The note on pulling pages without an upload queue is extract PDF pages without uploading. Use Rotate PDF if the extract is sideways. Use Compress PDF only if the smaller file is still over a cap and flattened pages are acceptable. Use Merge PDF if this extract must sit behind a cover that lives in another file.

Frequently asked questions

Why does 8, 1-3 come out in a different order from 1-3, 8?

The list is the output order. 8, 1-3 starts with page 8 and then expands the range as 1, 2, 3. 1-3, 8 starts with 1, 2 and 3 and puts 8 last. A range always expands from the lower number to the higher number. Spaces are optional, so 1 - 3 reads exactly like 1-3, and a leading zero such as 05 still means page 5. A doubled comma is ignored. A semicolon is not a separator: 1;2 stops with Invalid page selection: 1;2.

Can I list page 4 twice so the extract contains two copies of it?

No. A repeated number is kept once, at the first position where you wrote it. Extract PDF Pages will not duplicate a page. When a packet genuinely needs the same sheet twice, such as one signed form for two recipients, extract that page in two separate runs and join both downloads with Merge PDF, which copies every page of each chosen file in selection order.

What label and filename does an extract of report.pdf use?

The row is labelled Extracted pages and the file is report-extracted.pdf. The line under the label is the file size. report.pdf on your device is not renamed. Only the text after the last dot is dropped before -extracted is added, so minutes.final.pdf becomes minutes.final-extracted.pdf and Scan 03.PDF becomes Scan 03-extracted.pdf with a lower-case extension.

How many downloads does a five-page extract produce?

One. Those five pages share a single PDF. Extract PDF Pages does not add a separate Download button for each page you named. Its size follows what those pages carry. Pages you leave out do not bring their pictures along, so five typed pages pulled from a 40-page report full of photographs can be a small fraction of the source, while one page holding a large photograph keeps that photograph at full size. Nothing is recompressed here.

Which message appears when Pages to extract is left blank?

A completely empty box is usually caught first by the browser, which asks you to fill in the required field. A box holding only spaces gets past that prompt and stops with Enter page numbers, for example 1-3, 5, 8. The grey placeholder, such as 1-3, 24, is a hint and is never used as your selection. A descending range such as 3-1 or a number past the last page stops with Page selection 3-1 is outside 1-24 for a 24-page file. A word such as two gets Invalid page selection: two. The chosen PDF stays selected, so correct the named piece and press Extract pages again.

Are bookmarks from the source copied into the extracted PDF?

No. The new document receives the pages you listed, not the source outline. The form dictionary is not copied. Keep the source if you still need the outline or a fillable form. Links behave differently, because they sit on the page itself: a web address linked in the footer of a chosen page is copied with that page and still opens in the extract. An internal link to a page you left out, such as a contents entry, is removed, and nothing from that page is copied with it. A link between two pages you kept still jumps to the right page in the extract.
