Split a PDF into separate files by page count

Use Split PDF when one document should become several smaller PDFs: one file per page, or a fixed run of consecutive pages such as every five or every ten. Choose a single PDF, set Pages per file, then select Split PDF. PDF North copies each group into its own download in this browser. The original file on your device is not overwritten, and it is not uploaded.

This page is the control itself. It is a page-count split, not a bookmark splitter, a megabyte splitter or a zip of custom ranges. If you only need one PDF that contains a scattered list such as pages 3, 8 and 14-16, use Extract PDF Pages. Pages per file

The field is labelled Pages per file. It accepts a whole number from 1 to 250 and starts at 1. The note under the field says to use 1 for individual pages. At 1, a six-page PDF produces six downloads, and each row reads Pages 1-1, Pages 2-2 and so on, because a one-page group still shows its start and end. At 5, that same PDF produces two downloads: pages 1-5, then page 6 alone, labelled Pages 6-6. The tool always starts at page 1 and walks forward. It does not let you begin at a later page, and it does not skip a sheet in the middle.

A 7-page statement, three pages per file

The file is statement.pdf and it has seven pages. Set Pages per file to 3 and select Split PDF. You get three separate results. statement-part-1.pdf is pages 1-3. statement-part-2.pdf is pages 4-6. statement-part-3.pdf is page 7 only, and its label reads Pages 7-7. Each row is titled Part 1, Part 2 or Part 3. Nothing is padded to make the last file the same length, and the split does not stop before the last page. Set the same statement to 1 if the recipient asked for every sheet on its own.

Separate Download buttons, not a zip

Many splitters pack every part into one archive. PDF North does not. After the split, the results list shows one Download button per part. Save the files you need. The name is the original file name, without its extension, plus -part-1, -part-2 and so on. A source called minutes.final.pdf therefore downloads as minutes.final-part-1.pdf. The PDF you selected stays on your device.

The workspace also draws a first-page preview so you can see that the chosen file is the right one. That preview is not a page picker. You cannot click thumbnails, tick odd pages, or type a range such as 1-3, 8 into Split PDF.

What this splitter will not do

Pages per file is the only split control. There is no bookmark or outline mode, so chapter titles inside the PDF are ignored even when the file has them. There is no target size in kilobytes or megabytes. A photo-heavy group can stay large, because splitting copies pages and does not recompress images. There is no odd-and-even mode and no button that cuts the document into a first half and a second half.

If a recipient asked for scattered pages in one file, Extract PDF Pages is the matching tool. If blank backs should not sit inside a group, remove them first with Delete PDF Pages, then split the shorter document. If a part is still over a mailbox or portal cap, run that part through Compress PDF and accept flattened pages. Keep the unsplit original until the smaller copy is readable. Rejoin parts later with Merge PDF if you still need one file. Merging copies pages and does not shrink them.

Copied pages, not pictures of pages

Each output is built by copying the existing PDF pages into a new document. Ordinary text and images stay in PDF form rather than being redrawn as a picture. That is different from compression, which rebuilds every page as an image and removes selectable text, links and form fields. A split can still disturb features that live outside the visible page. Bookmarks, interactive forms and certificate-backed signatures are not guaranteed to appear in every part. Open the downloads before you replace the original or send them on.

Private processing and the real limits

The selected PDF is read in this browser tab. PDF North does not receive it, store an account copy or add it to a job history. Password-protected PDFs are not supported. Each file is limited to 60 MB and 250 pages. Those figures are memory limits, not an upload cap, and a phone can still fail on a long scan before either limit is reached. Close or reload the tab to drop the temporary download links.

No account is required, and the tool does not stamp a watermark onto the parts. Check the page span on each Download button before you attach a file, especially when the last part is shorter than the others.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split one PDF into a file for every page?

Yes. Leave Pages per file at 1, which is the default. A six-page PDF then offers six Download buttons. A one-page part is labelled with the same start and end, such as Pages 1-1.

Does splitting upload the PDF or redraw the pages?

No. Groups are copied in this browser, the file on your device is left as it was, and PDF North does not receive it. Ordinary text stays in PDF form. Bookmarks, forms and certificate-backed signatures are not guaranteed in every part.

Can Split PDF follow bookmarks or aim at a file size?

No. Pages per file, from 1 to 250, is the only split control. The outline is ignored, and the tool does not stop at a kilobyte or megabyte figure. Compress a part afterwards if it is still too large to send.

Can I keep only pages 1-3 and 8?

Not with Split PDF. It starts at page 1 and makes a file for every consecutive group. Extract PDF Pages keeps a scattered list such as 1-3, 8 in one new PDF. Delete PDF Pages drops the numbers you name and keeps the rest.

Are the split parts saved as a zip?

No. Each group has its own Download button. A source named minutes.final.pdf becomes minutes.final-part-1.pdf, minutes.final-part-2.pdf and so on. The line under the button names the page span.

Where do leftover pages go when the count does not divide evenly?

The last file is shorter. A 10-page PDF with Pages per file set to 4 becomes three downloads: pages 1-4, 5-8 and 9-10. That last span is not padded, and the split does not stop before the end.
