Word to PDF: Honest Paths That Stay on Your Device
There is no Word importer on this site. That is deliberate: parsing Office files in the browser is a different product, and faking one would be spam. You can still get a PDF without sending the manuscript to us — export from Word, or photograph/scan pages and use the image converter.
How to do this in PDF North
- Prefer Word’s own export or print-to-PDF. That keeps fonts, headings and page breaks the way the author set them.
- If you only have printed pages or screenshots, open JPG to PDF and select those JPG or PNG images in order.
- Create the PDF, check orientation and margins, then merge or number it only after the pages are right.
Export from Word when you still have the .docx
Desktop Word, Word for the web and Google Docs can all produce a real PDF. That file already has a text layer, so later extract, merge and search still work. PDF North does not need to see the .docx. If you then need one binder, bring the exported PDFs into Merge PDF.
Images only when the Word file is gone
Screenshots and phone photos of a printout become A4 pages in JPG to PDF. That PDF is a stack of pictures: no selectable text, and usually a large file. Compress only if a send cap forces it. This is a recovery path, not a typesetter.
What we will not claim
We will not accept a .doc upload, preserve tracked changes, or map styles to PDF tags. HEIC photos from some phones must be exported to JPG or PNG first. The reverse job — words out of a digital PDF — is PDF to Word (text), not a round-trip editor.
Frequently asked questions
Can I drop a Word file onto PDF North?
No. The converters accept PDF, or JPG/PNG images. Export a PDF from Word instead.
Is print-to-PDF better than screenshot-to-PDF?
Yes, if you still have the document. Print-to-PDF keeps text selectable. Screenshots do not.
Do these steps upload my manuscript?
Export stays in Word or Docs. Image conversion stays in this browser. PDF North does not receive the .docx.
Can I combine several exported chapter PDFs?
Yes. Use Merge PDF after each chapter has been exported.
Will comments and tracked changes be in the PDF?
Only if Word's own export includes them. PDF North never opens the .docx, so it cannot map comments, styles or tracked changes. Choose in Word whether those marks belong in the exported PDF.
Why did JPG to PDF reject a phone photo?
That converter accepts JPG and PNG only. HEIC pictures from some phones must be saved as JPG or PNG on the device first. Each accepted image becomes one A4 page, and full-resolution photos often make a large PDF.
