Resize a PDF to A4, Letter or a Custom Sheet

Printers and portals often reject mixed page sizes. PDF North builds a new sheet for every page — A4, A3, A5, Letter, Legal or custom dimensions — and places the existing page in the centre. That is a layout change, not a file-size promise.

Your file stays private. PDF North tools run in this browser tab. Following a guide and opening a tool does not upload the document.

How to do this in PDF North

  1. Delete or extract pages you do not want on the new sheet size.
  2. Choose A4, Letter or custom dimensions, then Fit to keep every edge or Fill if you accept cropping.
  3. Resize, measure a page in a reader, and print a test sheet if the destination is paper.

Fit versus fill

Fit scales the whole page inside the new sheet and may add white space. Fill covers the sheet and can clip edges. Contracts and forms should use Fit. Artwork that must bleed to the edge can use Fill if you inspect every page.

A4 and Letter are not interchangeable

A4 is 210 × 297 mm. US Letter is 8.5 × 11 inches. They look similar and are not the same. Choose the size the printer or form named. Automatic orientation can keep portrait prose and landscape tables on one paper standard.

What the rebuild can drop

Visible page content is embedded as PDF content. Forms, links, bookmarks, tags and digital signatures may not carry. Do not resize a fillable form or a certified file whose signature must remain valid. Compress if you need fewer megabytes rather than a new paper size.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing to A4 make the PDF smaller?

Not necessarily. Resize changes the page box. Use Compress PDF when the job is a file-size limit.

Can I enter a custom size?

Yes. Choose Custom size and enter width and height in millimetres or inches between 0.5 and 60 inches.

Is the PDF uploaded to change the paper size?

No. Pages are rebuilt in this browser. The original file stays on your device.
