PDF to PNG or JPG: Which Image Export to Use
Both converters turn a PDF page into a picture in your browser. PNG stores the rendered pixels without extra lossy artefacts. JPG is usually smaller for photographs. Neither export keeps selectable text, links or form fields.
How to do this in PDF North
- Decide whether you need a sharp diagram (PNG) or a compact photo page (JPG).
- Leave the page field blank for every page, or enter a range such as 1-3, 7.
- Choose a render size, convert, and open each numbered download before you discard the PDF.
Pick PNG for edges, JPG for photos
PNG is the better default for screenshots, charts, logos and small type. JPG is the better default when the page is already a photograph and you care more about attachment size. PDF North’s PNG tool uses a white background, so transparent PDF areas will not stay transparent.
A page image is not editable text
If you need words you can copy, use Extract Text from PDF on a file that already has a text layer. If you need the page to remain a PDF, extract pages instead of rendering them. Conversion cannot invent OCR for a scan.
Private exports on any device
Both converters use Mozilla PDF.js in this tab. Extra Large renders use more memory, especially on a phone. Convert a smaller page range if the device struggles. Files are not uploaded to PDF North.
Frequently asked questions
Is PNG always higher quality than JPG?
PNG avoids extra JPG artefacts, but it cannot restore detail missing from the PDF. A low-resolution scan stays soft in both formats.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Enter commas and ranges, or leave the field blank for the full document.
Do these converters upload the PDF?
No. Rendering and encoding stay in the browser. Temporary image URLs are released when the page closes.
